When Zeek first found Thorn injured and naked, he just wanted to die but there was something about him that had Zeek wanting to save him, which she does, even though she gets hurt in the process…I’m glad Dicey decided to write a novella in between books 3 & 4 of the series, it meant I didn’t have to wait as long for my fix! We first met Zeek in the 3rd book, and this story gives us more insight into how she thinks, feels, and works etc. It has all the grit of the main books but also is quite touching and emotional.
I have to be honest this is probably my least favourite book by Dicey Grenor to date, I think probably because it is a novella, albeit a long novella. For some reason even though we were given a lot of insight into Zeek, I still felt a bit detached from her, and didn’t connect as well as I wanted to.
As expected DG gives us an unusual and daring subject matter that had me, as a reader, curious about the mechanics and really interested to see just how certain scenes would be written...They were beautifully written by the way, and this is another dynamic piece of work with all the violence sex and bad language we have come to know from this unique, but great author.
